Books from AA Publications & Bedford Press

AA Publications, the publishing arm of the Architectural Association School of Architecture London, has a long tradition of publishing both emerging architects, artists and theorists, as well as more established thinkers. 

We've got some lovely books from AA and their small-scale imprint Bedford Press gracing the shelves right now, so we thought we'd highlight a couple of our favourites.

The highly acclaimed 'Architecture Words' series from AA is definitely worth perusing this winter. These small, brightly coloured paperbacks celebrate critical writing and theoretical conversation in architecture – topics range from Sylvia Lavin on Baudelaire, to Max Bill on the challenges of contemporary design.  

Real Estates: Life Without Debt explores the complexities of property in neoliberal debt economies, and questions what role the architect might play in addressing widening social and spatial inequalities. First Works: Emerging Architectural Experimentation of the 1960s & 1970s, after the 2010 exhibition of the same name, charts the remarkable generation of architects who came of age during the culturally tumultous 60s and 70s. Nightswimming: Discotheques from the 1960s to the present is a fun, yet comprehensive, history of the anthropological and architectural phenomenon that is the disco.
