We need staff for our forthcoming bookshop in Sydney!

We are currently looking for two part-time, casual bookshop assistants to work with us in our forthcoming bookshop in Chippendale, Sydney.

Introduction

Uro Publications is a both multi award-winning Australian publisher of architecture and design books and a specialist bookshop based in Collingwood, Melbourne.

We are currently looking for two part-time, casual bookshop assistants to work with us in our forthcoming bookshop in Chippendale, Sydney.

The successful candidate will be working in retail sales, customer service, social media marketing and events (handling tasks such as greeting guests, ticketing, event book sales), as well as back-of-house, assisting with inventory management and order fulfilment (for purchases from our online store).

The role would suit someone with bookselling or retail experience with good administrative skills, experience with social media, attention to detail and an excellent grasp of written English.

As we are a specialist architecture and design bookstore, knowledge of subjects relating to design in the built environment is essential. Candidates must have architectural training and/or experience in professional architectural design or architectural academia.

 

Responsibilities

•    Engage with customers in a polite and helpful manner
•    Provide retail assistance and advice to customers, with regards to available books, ordering and payment enquiries
•    Process all customer payments, as directed by the employer
•    Undertake to process new stock, as directed by the employer
•    Handle the shipping and fulfillment of online purchases
•    Respond to inbound customer enquiries via email or phone
•    Ensure that the shop and stock room is well maintained, well presented and clean 
•    Assist in updating and producing content for our Instagram and Facebook channels
•    Assist in preparing our weekly e-newsletters
•    Attend and assist Uro Publications at book launches and in-store events, including facilitating retail sales of books and other tasks as directed by the employer

Hours

This is a part-time, casual role with some flexibility required around work schedule. Generally, the bookshop assistants will be required to work up to four four-hour shifts per week. Initially, the Sydney satellite shop hours will be 12pm–4pm, Wednesday to Saturday, but shift hours could lengthen or change as the shop becomes established. Candidates must be available to work weekends. Some evening work might also be needed occasionally in support of any events the bookstore hosts or is involved with. Candidates must be able to begin work 22 April.
