Athens as a Project brings together architect and researcher Platon Issaias and photographer Yiorgis Yerolymbos in an atlas of the contemporary Greek capital—its buildings, its recent history and the everyday practices that shape it.
About This Book
The book is the outcome of Issaias's long-running research into Athens and the particular conditions of Greek cities, which he positions within wider debates about urban development across the Mediterranean and the Global South. Working where architecture meets photography, the two authors look at the city from unfamiliar angles, combining texts, drawings and images.
What emerges is a portrait of a city in continual transformation: notable projects sit alongside public atmospheres and the informal routines of daily life, including those reshaped by the economic crisis of the 2010s and by the pandemic. Athens is treated not as a finished place but as an ongoing project.
