Erik Odijk’s The Academy of the Sublime presents drawings, works in public space, and photographs and film stills by the Dutch artist. Odijk is best known for his awe-inspiring large drawings made in his studio or on location, in which fragments from nature always form the most important visual elements. With graphic design by Studio Joost Grootens and contributions by various writers, the publication is an ode to attentive observation, something the artist sees as the connection between language and image. It consists of three large-format “magazines” illustrating the three distinct disciplines in the artist’s oeuvre, and shows a selection of Odijk’s highly immersive work from 2005 to the present.
