Mise en pièces is an original body of work combining self-portraits of the artist, still lifes and images taken during cosmetic surgery. Breast prostheses, lamb’s brains and rose petals invade the space to form a whole. Here we are confronted with these fragmentary remains — objects of a luminous metamorphosis, supercharged by effects of contrast and brilliance. The same image leads to several worlds. Flesh is the meaning. Meaning is the flesh. Sense invades the space, spreading like silicone seeping into the tissues of a mutant body.
The photographer cuts, grabs, lifts and assembles. The tearing apart resembles a distortion of reality. Of this we are all made: flesh, nerves, guts, bones and cartilages. But where descriptive monstrosity darkens, Lucile Boiron transfigures reality. By mastering the light, she gives us the materials from their own point of view. The photographer turns to the substance itself, given as it is, original.
