Parallel Tunes: Suzuko Yamada Works is the first monograph on the Tokyo architect Suzuko Yamada, published by TOTO to coincide with her solo exhibition at TOTO Gallery·Ma.
About This Book
Yamada describes her aim as architecture in which many songs sound at once—buildings where nature, living things, landscape and made objects assert themselves, collide and resonate, rather than resolving into a single controlled melody. Her work is known for unexpected forms, bold composition and vivid colour.
The book covers all 37 of her projects, from her master's project to her most recent work, with a description of each. Six essays sit alongside conversations with the architect Ryue Nishizawa, the primatologist Juichi Yamagiwa and the structural engineer Mitsuhiro Kanada, and an exchange of letters with the Portuguese practice fala.

About the Architect
Suzuko Yamada is an architect based in Tokyo. Her own house, daita2019, received the 2020 Grand Prize of the Architectural Design Association of Nippon among other awards. She designed a rest area for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, has completed the renewal of a tourist farm and was selected through competition to design a public library. Her first solo exhibition, parallel tunes, was held at TOTO Gallery·Ma in Tokyo.
