Aboriginal housing is one of five research themes pursued by Memmott. His national standing in this area was recognized with the Royal Australian Institute of Architects' Sisalation Award to produce this serial monograph. Most recently he has been made chair of the RAIA's special Task Force on Indigenous housing. His depth of publication and consultancy (since mid-1970s) has broadened to residential settings in institutional architecture in order to start reform in the design of hospitals, prisons, holding cells etc for Indigenous people.
